The article briefly surveys the scholarly contributions of the late Italian scholar Renato Traini (1923-2014). The article dwells on Traini’s activity as Professor of Arabic language at the University of Rome “la Sapienza” and focuses on his pivotal role in studying and cataloguing Arabic manuscripts (mainly but not only Yemeni) in Italian libraries, as well as on his work as the main author of the most important Arabic-Italian Dictionary.
