This essay discusses "Hamlet" as presented in four Italian productions in 2009:"Amleto" by A. Calenda; "Ex-Amleto" by R. Herlitzka; "Per Amleto" by M. Dalisi; "Kitemmurt" by G. Ventriglia. All of then underline the critical function of theatre as a mirror of life and show how Hamlet is still the character who best represents modern man and his attempt to find possible answers to the great life questions.
