Hyech'o. Pellegrinaggio alle cinque regioni dell'India

This book represents the most complete edition of Hyech-o's "Pilgrimage to the Five Regions of India" published outside Korea. The book has a long introduction, where the historical, religious and literary background of Korean kingdom of Silla is explained. The introduction also deals with the philological problems concerning the text. The introduction is followed by the full translation from the original text in Chinese, notes and bibliography. Copy of the original manuscript and a reconstruction of the text are also provided. Given the importance of Hyech'o's work, which actually is an eye-witness' report on the complex geo-political situation and cultural clashes in India and Central Asia during the 8th century.
