Eros was published in December 1874 by the publisher Brigola, after about a year of work by Verga. This paper follows the events of the novel, from its first appearance in Verga’s epistolary exchange in October 1873, with the title aporeo, until its release. Starting from the work of Branciforti, the paper illustrates the critical edition in progress and the currently available materials. The essay also shows an example taken from the edition, demonstrating the importance of the critical apparatus, that enables a rapid consultation of the manuscript variants, through the redaction of the text

Eros è stato pubblicato nel dicembre del 1874 dall’editore brigola, dopo circa un anno di lavoro da parte di Verga. il presente contributo segue le vicende del romanzo, dalla sua prima apparizione nell’epistolario nell’ottobre del 1873, con il titolo provvisorio di Aporeo, fino alla sua stampa, attraverso le lettere di Verga alla famiglia e a Capuana. Partendo dal lavoro di branciforti, si illustrano l’edizione critica in corso e i materiali attualmente a disposizione degli studiosi. si mostra anche un esempio tratto dall’edizione, dando prova dell’importanza dello studio dei manoscritti per la critica verghiana.
