The aim of this paper is to give a concrete example of the influence of Hermetic Arabic texts on the thoughts of William of Auvergne. He was also one of the most important Scholastic thinkers who dealt with the Liber de quattuor confectionibus, regarding prayers to the spirits of animals in transaction with natural magic, and harmonizing them with monotheistic conceptions.

Abstract
