Scholars, analysts, media, NGOs and international organisations are still trying to define the phenomenon of environmental degradation as driver for human mobility. Anyhow, its identification, conceptualisation and representation remain very nebulous yet, triggering misleading consequences in the perception of the issue. In this regard, the paper explores the evolution of the scientific debate surrounding the environmental-mobility nexus. After having introduced the problems concerning the circumstantiation of the topic (in terms of definition, studied areas and entity), the contribution will mainly focus on its chronologic progression. Finally, it will investigate how these overexposed categories contribute in creating confusion and ambiguous opinions and to concur to drive political global agenda.
