Abstract

The classical spider myth has a patriarchal and misogynistic character. Contemporary female writers aim at using and trasforming the classical mythology so that it can serve their own purposes. The article author compares several works by contemporary Polish female writers, interpreting them through the Arachne myth. He also refers to the intercultural and interdisciplinary contexts because mythology is a linking element between classical and modern civilisations.
