The little song Under der linden is probably the most famous poem of Walther von der Vogelweide’s love poetry (Minnesang). Its echoes are widespread in medieval and modern German literature. In the 70s it was reworked by songwriters also outside Germany. This essay provides a comparison between Walther’s medieval poem and Branduardi’s famous song Sotto il tiglio. The version of the Italian songwriter shows the right balance between faithful translation and innovation through the montage-technique and the insertion of a new ending.

Abstract
The little song Under der linden is probably the most famous poem of Walther von der Vogelweide’s love poetry (Minnesang). Its echoes are widespread in medieval and modern German literature. In the 70s it was reworked by songwriters also outside Germany. This essay provides a comparison between Walther’s medieval poem and Branduardi’s famous song Sotto il tiglio. The version of the Italian songwriter shows the right balance between faithful translation and innovation through the montage-technique and the insertion of a new ending.File in questo prodotto:
