Bases on the analysis of the translation into Italian of an essay by French historian of photograph y Clément Chéroux, the aim of this article is to insist on the importance of a lexical analysis when translating. An essay on photography belongs to literature and to specialized texts so that the translation ha to be precise towards the words of photography and to the expressive choices of the author. Through the mistranslations pocked out in the Italian edition, we intend to reaffirm the professionality required for any translation and also to minimize our critics by stessing the cultural value of translating project.
