The article analyses and interprets the conceptual metaphors uncovered in relation to Brexit in two Spanish newspapers, "El País" and "ABC". The corpus comprises 293 articles, which cover the period ranging from June 16, 2016 to June 30, 2016. The analysis provides an interpretation of what motivates some of the discourse practices revealed (i.e. the understanding of the power approach of the speaker) and provides a window to possible social and ethical implications. This study also confirms that the analysis of conceptual metaphors can prove a useful and powerful tool to shed light on the relationship between language and power lying at the core of Critical Discourse Analysis.

Abstract
The article analyses and interprets the conceptual metaphors uncovered in relation to Brexit in two Spanish newspapers, "El País" and "ABC". The corpus comprises 293 articles, which cover the period ranging from June 16, 2016 to June 30, 2016. The analysis provides an interpretation of what motivates some of the discourse practices revealed (i.e. the understanding of the power approach of the speaker) and provides a window to possible social and ethical implications. This study also confirms that the analysis of conceptual metaphors can prove a useful and powerful tool to shed light on the relationship between language and power lying at the core of Critical Discourse Analysis.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
