The classic myths have always been an expression of a patriarchal and misogynistic culture. Currently, female writers feel the urgent need to take possession of classical mythology in such a way as to (re)create it ex novo according to their own needs and feelings. In this article, by comparing the works of several contemporary Polish women’s works, the author intends to achieve an intratextual and intertextual “journey” through the prism of the Arachne myth. It also aims to carry out an intercultural and interdisciplinary analysis of this myth, considering that mythology connects classical and modern civilization.

Abstract

The classic myths have always been an expression of a patriarchal and misogynistic culture. Currently, female writers feel the urgent need to take possession of classical mythology in such a way as to (re)create it ex novo according to their own needs and feelings. In this article, by comparing the works of several contemporary Polish women’s works, the author intends to achieve an intratextual and intertextual “journey” through the prism of the Arachne myth. It also aims to carry out an intercultural and interdisciplinary analysis of this myth, considering that mythology connects classical and modern civilization.
