Starting by 2007 the Italian company Fanny Alexander works on a singolar technique of acting called eterodirection. It consists in making actor wears ear monitors and let it be passed through by lines of drama – recorded on an audio file – and a live stage directing: both inputs are sent to the performer using two different audio channels. This is not only a method of acting, but It can be defined a real mean of construction in narrative and theatrical approach experienced by the company. As shown by some spectacles (HIM, West, Discorso grigio, Se questo è Levi, Storia di un’amicizia) eterodirection is became the pivotal tool which Fanny & Alexander created their works in last thirteen years. In the first part this essay focuses on the analysis of the elements composing this technique in creating the performing act. Afterwards It examines spectacles that company staged to offer an overview about the still evolving narrative mechanism developed by Fanny & Alexander who experiment this mean of live creation straight on stage.
