The present article analyses the role played by Italy, in particular by Italian diplomats in Buenos Aires, officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and some well-known political personalities, such as the Italian Christian-Democratic leader Giulio Andreotti, in the return to power of Juan Domingo Perón in Argentina in 1973, taking into account the material political support and the comparison between the Argentinian and Chilean political crises (in the last months of Salvador Allende’s presidency and the coup d’état of September 11th) made by his contemporaries, including the Argentinian leader himself. This text is based, above all, on documentation held in the Giulio Andreotti Archive, specifically in the Argentina Fund.
