In Hungary all political and historical changes have also led to a consequent change in the linguistic landscape, in particular regarding the new attribution and/or change of the hodonyms (names of public places such as streets, roads, squares etc.). This phenomenon is especially striking in Budapest, which is the subject of the analysis presented in this article. The history of the hodonyms of Budapest can be divided into eight periods, each with different characteristics. After the First World War a new phenomenon can be observed: the trend for renaming. The year 1989 represents another key turning point. Since then, more than a thousand denominations have sprung up, which are not all new. In fact, a good part of these (transnational, national or local) attributions is nothing, but the restoration of names already used in the past. The more or less new attribution of names of public places is mainly based on two reasons: commemorations and political/ideological reasons (e.g., removing the transnational toponymy reflecting Soviet ideology) that will also be treated in this paper.

Abstract
The more or less new attribution of names of public places is mainly based on two reasons: commemorations and political/ideological reasons (e.g., removing the transnational toponymy reflecting Soviet ideology) that will also be treated in this paper.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
