This book provides 100 "free songs" (sanqu) from Yuan-time China (1271 - 1368) in German translation. Among the more than 40 authors are famous playwrights such as Guan Hanqing, Ma Zhiyuan and others. The collection contains both "little songs" (xiaoling) as well as "suites" or "song chains" (taoshu) where a number of songs are combined into a longer poetic and musical work.
