The essay is part of the studies on public communication by Luigi Sturzo (1871-1959), priest and founder of the Italian Popular Party, and reflects on the forms of personalization of the message and the ways of involving the public, through which the Sicilian leader, between the beginning of the XX century and the Twenties, led the party and forged the political class consciousness of Italian Catholics. The research traces a line of development of these aspects by observing the ways in which the pronouns I and we are used, also by comparing Sturzo’s communication strategies with the typical rituals of twentieth-century political discourse. We will focus on journalistic writings and speeches made between 1897 and 1923.
