Many prominent figures were linked to the Angevin monarch: Francesco Petrarca, Giovanni Regina of Naples, Paolino from Venice, Landolfo Caracciolo, Giovanni Villani, Bartolomeo from Capua, Andalò from Negro, not to mention translators from Greek, Arabic and Hebrew, such as Niccolo da Reggio and Qalonimos ben Qalonimos. Robert of Anjou himself was the author of treatises, letters and sermons; he was a humanist sovereign with a cultural project ahead of his time.
