The contribution presents a concise and updated profile of Hendrick De Somer, mentioned by the sources as “Errico Fiammingo” among the main pupils of Jusepe de Ribera in Naples, in light of a discovered document in the Archivio Storico Diocesano of Naples, here transcribed in the appendix: a pre-matrimonial enquiry, which took place in 1636, for the marriage between another Flemish artist, Andrea Bruynseels, hitherto known — only through a few payments — as a specialist of landscapes and other small compositions, and Elena Rusca, widow of the painter Andrea Greco, brother-in-law of Salvator Rosa. As witness in favor of Bruynseels, De Somer provides new data on his training and on his social relations with the local artistic context.
