Conde Lucanor’s examples 15 and 16, which have as protagonists respectively Lorenzo Suárez and Fernán González, are inspired by Alphonsin and post-Alphonsine chronicles material that Don Juan Manuel, starting from a version called *Crónica manuelina, resumed in the Crónica abreviada. Both are the result of a profound and skilful reworking: in the first case, through the “condensation” of elements from two originally distinct chronistic episodes of the siege of Seville; in the second, through the “ellipsis”, the amputation of those parts of the chosen anecdote that are irrelevant or potentially disorienting for the purposes of the preestablished interpretation. As usual, it is the frame that guides the operation, and in particular Patronio’s commentary, who selects from among the concrete elements of the hypotexts (which have been, through the transformatio of the materials used, structurally adapted for this purpose), those pertinent to the “lessons” he intends to impart and which don Johán summarizes in his morale: in one case recommending the patientia, a virtue linked to fortitudo, understood as the capacity to know how to wait, enduring fear with courage and reason; in the other condemning that particular form of pusillanimitas constituted by the otiositas, by the inaction, that is, the non-fulfilment of the duties inherent to one’s status.

Les contes 15 et 16 du Comte Lucanor, qui mettent en scène respectivement Lorenzo Suárez et Fernán González, s’inspirent des matériaux de chroniques alphonsines ou post-alphonsines que don Juan Manuel, àù partir d’une version appelée *Crónica manuelina, avait résumée dans la Crónica abreviada. Tous deux sont le résultat d’un profond et habile remaniement : dans le premier cas, par la condensation d’éléments provenant de deux épisodes de la chronique du siège de Séville, à l’origine, distincts ; dans le second, par l’ellipse, l’amputation des parties de l’anecdote choisie qui ne sont pas pertinentes ou qui risquent de désorienter les finalités de l’interprétation préétablie. Comme d’habitude, c’est le cadre narratif qui guide l’opération et, en particulier, le commentaire de Patronio qui sélectionne parmi les éléments concrets des hypotextes (qui ont été, par la transformation des matériaux utilisés, structurellement adaptés au but), ceux qui sont pertinents pour les « leçons » qu’il entend transmettre et que don Johán résume dans sa morale finale : dans un cas en recommandant la patientia, vertu liée à la fortitudo, entendue comme la capacité de savoir attendre, en supportant la peur avec courage et raison; dans l’autre condamner cette forme particulière de la pusillanimitas que constitue l’otiositas, l’inactivité, c’est-à-dire le non accomplissement des devoirs inhérents à son propre estamento.
Los cuentos 15 y 16 del Conde Lucanor, protagonizados respectivamente por Lorenzo Suárez y Fernán González, se inspiran en los materiales cronísticos alfonsíes o postalfonsíes que don Juan Manuel, partiendo de una versión llamada *Crónica manuelina, había resumido en la Crónica abreviada. Ambos son el resultado de una profunda y hábil reelaboración: en el primer caso, mediante la “condensación” de elementos procedentes de dos episodios cronísticos, originariamente distintos, del asedio de Sevilla; en el segundo, mediante la «elipsis», la amputación de aquellas partes de la anécdota elegida que resultan irrelevantes o potencialmente desorientadoras para los fines de la interpretación prestablecida. Lo que guía la operación es, como de costumbre, el marco, y en particular el comentario de Patronio, que selecciona entre los elementos concretos de los hipotextos (que han sido, mediante la transformación de los materiales utilizados, estructuralmente adaptados al fin), los pertinentesa las “lecciones” que él quiere impartir y que don Johán resume en su moraleja final: en un caso, recomendar la patientia, virtud vinculada a la fortitudo, entendida como capacidad de saber esperar, soportando con coraje y razón el miedo; en el otro, condenar esa particular forma de la pusillanimitas constituida por la otiositas, por la inactividad, es decir por el incumplimiento de los deberes inherentes al propio estamento.
