À l’époque moderne, la cour du sultanat du Borno (Nord Nigeria) fut un centre culturel et intellectuel remarquable. Les écrits de l’imam Aḥmad b. Furṭū (xvie siècle) sont un témoin exceptionnel de cette activité littéraire et révèlent l’existence d’un mouvement littéraire local inspiré par les maġāzī, ou le récit des guerres du Prophète Muhammad. In the Early Modern period, Borno sultanate’s court (Northern Nigeria) was a noteworthy cultural and intellectual Islamic centre. The writings of the 16th century imam Aḥmad b. Furṭū are an exceptional testimony of this literary activity and reveals the existence of a proper literary movement inspired by the maġāzī, or the narrations of Prophet Muhammad’s wars.
