40 years of geoarchaeological activities of the University of Naples L’Orientale in the Arabian Peninsula. Remarks on some geoarchaeological contexts in their paleo-environments

The University of Naples L’Orientale has been carrying out archaeological research in the Arabian Peninsula since 1980. A wide range of geoarchaeological contexts have been defined stretching from the Arabia Felix to the Arabia Petraea and Arabia Deserta as well as in eastern Arabia, the land of the Ichtyophagoi. This paper intents to reconsider some of the geoarchaeological analyses conducted by a remote sensing approach to the definition of exploitation strategies among settlers and nomadic prehistorical and historical cultures, in light of the adoption of false colors enhanced Landsat ETM imagery and by reconsider the middle ‘80s topographic relief carried out in Yemen in light of the most recent development of satellite imagery and GIS (Geographic Information System) environments, in order to introduce some of the ongoing projects based on a remote sensing geoarchaeological approach.
