Diarii paralleli: Géza Bereményi e Márta Mészáros ‘narratori’ del ’56 ungherese

The Hungarian revolution of 1956 had an immediate impact, both in literary and cinematographic culture, which undoubtedly in Hungary had, precisely in the years of the turning points (that is, from 1945 until the events of 1956-57) undergone changes of considerable importance. Only decades later the Hungarian culture will have the possibility of dealing with a scabrous and taboo subject like 1956 with greater clarity. This article examines the works of two authors, Márta Mészáros and Géza Bereményi, whose first films related to the narration of the events of 1956 were released in the period of political transition of the late 1980s, namely Eldorádó [Eldorado, 1988] and Napló apámnak, anyámnak [Diary for My Father and Mother, 1990]. The discourse of the two directors does not stop at these two works, their attention to the Hungarian revolution will also be felt in later works.

La rivoluzione ungherese del 1956 ebbe immediatamente riscontro, sia nella cultura letteraria che in quella cinematografica, che indubbiamente in Ungheria aveva, proprio negli anni delle svolte (cioè dal 1945 fino agli eventi del ’56-57) subito dei cambiamenti di notevole portata. Solo decenni più tardi la cultura ungherese si aprì alla possibilità di trattare con maggiore evidenza – seppure in forma di parabola – un argomento scabroso e tabù come il 1956: in questo articolo si esaminano le opere di due autori, Márta Mészáros e Géza Bereményi, i cui primi film legati alla narrazione degli eventi del ’56 escono nel periodo di transizione politica della fine degli anni Ottanta, ovvero Eldorádó [A prezzo d’oro, 1988] e Napló apámnak, anyámnak [Diario per mio padre e mia madre, 1990]. Il discorso dei due registi non si ferma a queste due opere, la loro attenzione alla rivoluzione ungherese si avvertirà anche in opere successive.
