The history of art is full of experiments in transposing mythological characters and other mythical material into new contexts. Old myths have often been - and continue to be - used as motifs in works of different artistic genres. In Johanna Sinisalo's novel Heroes (2003), Kalevala characters have been transposed to the modern world. Their intertextual analysis provides interesting cultural studies perspectives.
