In this paper, I provide a concise introduction to the principles and workflow of language documentation, proposing it as a valuable methodological enhancement for Koreanic linguistics. Although preliminary efforts have been made to bridge these disciplines, language documentation has yet to be firmly embedded within Koreanic linguistic research. I begin by outlining the field’s foundational concepts and terminology, before presenting a case study of documentation work carried out on Jeju Island, South Korea. I demonstrate that language documentation is not merely an alternative data-collection technique for Koreanic linguists but a distinct branch of linguistic inquiry in its own right.

Abstract
In this paper, I provide a concise introduction to the principles and workflow of language documentation, proposing it as a valuable methodological enhancement for Koreanic linguistics. Although preliminary efforts have been made to bridge these disciplines, language documentation has yet to be firmly embedded within Koreanic linguistic research. I begin by outlining the field’s foundational concepts and terminology, before presenting a case study of documentation work carried out on Jeju Island, South Korea. I demonstrate that language documentation is not merely an alternative data-collection technique for Koreanic linguists but a distinct branch of linguistic inquiry in its own right.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
