A. F. Koni's Recollections of the Vera Zasulič Case restores a socio-historical cross-section useful for reconstructing both the macro-history of the Russian judicial Counter-Reformation and the micro-history of the many characters who crowded Russian dungeons and courtrooms in the 1870s. Through these pages, Judge Koni retraces the milestones of the revolutionary's procedural history to talk about himself as a judge, his own idea of justice, and the reasons that led him away from criminal law. Koni is self-deprecating through his account of those days of great upheaval and, above all, through his dialogues with Minister K. I. Palen. Koni, accused of not conveying the verdict of conviction and guilty of not resigning, defends his actions and the institution of the popular jury. We therefore intend to repropose Koni's self-portrait on the basis of the dialogues he had with Palen and his chosen lexicon of evaluation

Abstract
