The purpose of the present study is to investigate the online discourse of the protest, by looking at how counter-ideological work was done on social media networks by Indigenous activists during the Idle No More initial stages. More specifically, we aim to examine the processes of social media activism during the campaign in order to understand the main strategies and discursive practices employed by Indigenous people in the Twittersphere through the analysis of the INM_Corpus, a corpus of tweets published between November 2012c and February 2013 using “#idlenomore” as a main research word. The qualitative analysis, supported by quantitative data, allowed the investigation of counter-discursive strategies of dissemination of Indigenous perspectives as connected to the mobilization of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples for social change and political resistance.
