La lingua dei Longobardi tra germanistica, romanistica e linguistica storica. Il longobardo e il Lessico Etimologico Italiano

Abstract: We owe our knowledge of the Lombard language to some words in Latin texts, to Italian onomastics, and to borrowings in Italoromance varieties. For the study of borrowings the materials offered by the Lessico Etimologico Italiano and in particular the lemmata of the Germanic Section are a very valuable source of data. Each LEI article presents new problems that require competencies both in Germanic and in Romance historical linguistics. After a brief description of the Lombards’ role in the framework of Italian cultural and linguistic history, some examples of words of Lombard origin will be given.
