The study outlines the main hermeneutical positions that have emerged within the scholarship on Mughal portraiture and its relation to European art. A special focus on the Darbar of Jahangir (MFA Boston) is applied. In conclusion, the study presents a research perspective on the artistic commensurability between the early Humanist tradition and Mughal painting.
