This study examines the textual architecture of two defence speeches delivered and subsequently recorded in cases of wife murder in the first half of the 20th century: the speech by lawyer S.A. Andreevskij in the Andreev case (Russian Empire) and the speech by lawyer Alfredo De Marsico in the Di Candia case (Italy). The analysis focuses on the architecture of the texts using categories of textual linguistics. In particular, it examines means of cohesion: the use of conjunctions that structure the argumentation on a logical level through the choice of punctuation and lexical-argumentative links. This study, conducted from a contrastive perspective, aims to lay the foundations for a systematic approach to the study of judicial discourse, opening up new perspectives for research into coherence in Italian and Russian argumentative texts and contributing to the increase in resources on specialised language in the field of stylistics and language teaching.
