This introduction presents sustainability as a complex and contested concept whose meanings are continually negotiated across discourse communities. Recognising its interconnected environmental, social and economic dimensions, it highlights the role of discourse in shaping sustainability-related understandings and practices, alongside the importance of stakeholder dialogue and the challenges posed by asymmetrical communication. It introduces the special issue Narratives of Sustainability: Interdisciplinary Insights and Ecolinguistic Perspectives, which brings together seven contributions drawing on corpus linguistics, discourse analysis, ecolinguistics, metaphor analysis and appraisal theory.
