This paper examines the famous biblical episode of the assassination of the Moabite king Eglon by the judge Ehud (Judges 3:12–30). The event is analyzed as a forerunner of the "Locked-Room Mystery" genre, owing to the specific narrative features of the murder, which takes place inside a closed room of the royal palace without leaving immediate clues as to the culprit. Alongside elements of cunning and characterization (such as the protagonist's left-handedness and the concealed weapon), the study focuses on the complex philological, lexical, and architectural issues surrounding the description of the crime scene and Ehud's escape route from the locus delicti, reviewing the text's most obscure passages and various exegetical interpretations proposed over time.

Abstract
This paper examines the famous biblical episode of the assassination of the Moabite king Eglon by the judge Ehud (Judges 3:12–30). The event is analyzed as a forerunner of the "Locked-Room Mystery" genre, owing to the specific narrative features of the murder, which takes place inside a closed room of the royal palace without leaving immediate clues as to the culprit. Alongside elements of cunning and characterization (such as the protagonist's left-handedness and the concealed weapon), the study focuses on the complex philological, lexical, and architectural issues surrounding the description of the crime scene and Ehud's escape route from the locus delicti, reviewing the text's most obscure passages and various exegetical interpretations proposed over time.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
