The paper aims to discuss an approach to the Mediterranean as a border region, both in geographical and historical terms, today positioned between Europe and its neighbours. The nature of this border region is expressed by the characters of its cities, whose role was historically to put in relation the different flows crossing the region. Cities on the border, henceforth, but also cities that contain borders. Following this approach, the characters of the city of Naples are related to different geographical scales viewed together in their interrelations.

Abstract
The paper aims to discuss an approach to the Mediterranean as a border region, both in geographical and historical terms, today positioned between Europe and its neighbours. The nature of this border region is expressed by the characters of its cities, whose role was historically to put in relation the different flows crossing the region. Cities on the border, henceforth, but also cities that contain borders. Following this approach, the characters of the city of Naples are related to different geographical scales viewed together in their interrelations.File in questo prodotto:
