The paper deals with the problem of eikoste, the tax on maritime trade that was introduced by the Athenians in 413 and that replaced the phoros of the allies. While, according to a recent thesis, the eikoste remained into force for a long time, in the paper it is stressed that the elements in favor of an early reintroduction of the phoros are hardly disputable, and it is argued that another significant proof in this regard stems from the analysis of some of the last tribute lists: it is in fact argued that one of them, contrary to most accepted chronology, dates to a period after 413.

Abstract
The paper deals with the problem of eikoste, the tax on maritime trade that was introduced by the Athenians in 413 and that replaced the phoros of the allies. While, according to a recent thesis, the eikoste remained into force for a long time, in the paper it is stressed that the elements in favor of an early reintroduction of the phoros are hardly disputable, and it is argued that another significant proof in this regard stems from the analysis of some of the last tribute lists: it is in fact argued that one of them, contrary to most accepted chronology, dates to a period after 413.File in questo prodotto:
