The polychrome mosaic emblemata found in the Isola Sacra necropolis (II-early III c. AC) are treated within the funerary context, in order to support interpretations on the funerary ideology of patrons of identifiable social milieu. Depicted are mythological subjects, xenia', 'still life' and an unidentified horseman (an auriga ?), probably the last in the series. Issues related to the craftsmen repertory suggest the hypothesis that the emblemata are produced in Ostia, contemporary to their use in the tombs.

Abstract
The polychrome mosaic emblemata found in the Isola Sacra necropolis (II-early III c. AC) are treated within the funerary context, in order to support interpretations on the funerary ideology of patrons of identifiable social milieu. Depicted are mythological subjects, xenia', 'still life' and an unidentified horseman (an auriga ?), probably the last in the series. Issues related to the craftsmen repertory suggest the hypothesis that the emblemata are produced in Ostia, contemporary to their use in the tombs.File in questo prodotto:
