The aim of my paper will be to examine the reception of Virginia Woolf’s modernism in the Low Countries and to analyse the problems in translating To the Lighthouse. Poetry always presents particular challenges for translators but how do you deal with someone who writes prose like poetry such as Virginia Woolf? I intend here to look at the extent to which the challenge has been met by translators into Dutch.
