The book offers a general critical introduction to the archaeology and history of Nubia and the Sudan. The main problems and topics dealt with in this field of study are outlined. Special attention is paied to the methodological aspects of the integration between archaeological and textual data and to the relationships between Nubia and Africa, the Mediterranean and the regions of the Near East, which had contact with the Middle Nile valley in ancient times.
