The essay represents a by-product of a broader research on the history of education in Eritrea in colonial times. It offers an analysis of data collected during a fieldwork research in Eritrea on the government school for ‘natives’ in Asmara concerning policies, but also educational praxis of the Fascist period, educational programs and level, aims pursued, outcomes on the "Italianization" of Eritreans and the latter's reply to the opportunities offered by the Italian educational system.
