The essay focuses on Leopardi’s reflections concerning children, starting from first pages of “Zibaldone”(pg 20) till pages 4449 and 4483 in the same work, dated in 1829. These reflections are in philosophical, sociological, pedagogical and psychological kind, and the entire speculations are harmonized within thoughts and poetry of the Poet from Recanati. He starts with a note about children’s way of writing, proceeding through their creativity and never-standing capability of imagination, focusing on their perception about pleasure and pain, ability around addiction, memorization and attention. In comparison with Childhood world there is the Adult world; but Leopardi lingers particularly on comparison, based upon affinities more than contrasts,between Childhood and the Ancient, rather more with Primitives.
