The article analyzes some works which date back to the early Ibadi period, when Ibadi scholarly activity was still centered in Basra and Kufa. These works, whose structure, contents and lines of trasmission show the archaic type of written trasmitted materials from the late 2nd/8th century, are the backbone of Ibadi jurisprudence in the first two centuries of Islam. The ancient Ibadi sources provide us with abudant raw data for analyzing the Ibadi jurists'contribution to the developing process of Islamic law.
