In the Eritrean monastery of Dabra Abuna Besu' Amlak a 15th c. Gospel in Ge'ez is still kept (brought there from Dabra Bizan). The colophon of the manuscript mentions the place-name kabasa together with several orders given by the king Zar'a Ya'qob (1434-68). The text is studied here from the philological, linguistic and historical point of view.

Abstract
