This paper approaches the question of the realia which are on the background of the famous description of the Achilleus' Shield in the XVIII Book of the Iliad. The objects, the techniques and the iconographies all refer to the world of Geometric Greece and its relationships with Cyprus and the Near East. The world of these realia is transformed by the poetic conception of the Shield, implying an overtaking of the fixedness of the image and giving life to the protagonists of the scenes described by Homer
