In the 14th-15th c. the scriptorium of the monastery of Dabra Maryam (Sara'e, Eritrea) played a decisive role in the history of the medieval Ethiopian literature, particularly for the textual tradition of important theological works such the Gadla Hawaryat (Apocryphal Acts of the Apostles) and the Sinodos (the collection of ecclesiastical canons).
