Behind and Beyond the EFL P.Æ.C.E. Corpus (B&B) complements the volume P.Æ.C.E. An Italian-English Corpus Based on EFL Students (P.Æ.C.E.). P.Æ.C.E. gathers the corpus raw data while B&B goes beyond presenting corpus backgrounds and data-derived projections. Qualitative and quantitative analyses unveil unexpected scenarios linked to freshmen’s emotional micro-worlds and self-made belief systems before and after a guided visualization. Myriad extracts show that visualizations awaken learners’ inner spheres and generate drastic changes in personal views about SLA. They disclose the presence of a deep and unifying motivational force, called EMOTIVATION by the author. Emotivation subtends acquisition, is self-generated, self-governed, and stands, in NLP terms, as a feasible candidate for ‘the difference that makes the difference’ in SLA
