This article analyses some short stories and fragments of texts belonging to different genres contained in Strindberg's "I vårbrytningen". The fundamental role of the sea is pointed out, through comparing these texts with Strindbreg's paintings and emphasising the passage from an impressionistic to an expressionistic use of colours both in literature and paintings.
