The aim of this study is twofold: to investigate the institutional legal discourse of the European Union realized in the Summaries as a form of popularization originating from the specialized genre of Directives, and provide a critical interpretation to the findings. Specifically, a diachronic analysis of EU Summaries vs. Directives has been carried out also taking into account the informative nature of popularization and the ideological implications within forms legitimating EU legal discourse in the Summaries with regard to ‘Food safety’ discourse.

Abstract
