The novel “A Small Saga” by Besnik Mustafaj treats the topic of political imprisonment during the communist dictatorship. The title of the novel that focuses on a small saga is a reaction against to the great (ideological) saga of Socialist Realism literature. In this novel, the author presents sad stories that turn narrative discourse into discussion against dictatorship. Besnik Mustafaj, a well-known Albanian author, in “A Small Saga” as well as in other his novels, brings some thematic and formal innovations, opening once again the closed period of dictatorship, the consequences of which are so present in Democratic Albania.
