This paper aims at investigating the expressive forms of contemporary fiction, characterized by a ceaseless intermedial dialogue that increasingly affects the production, distribution and reception of literary works. Through an interdisciplinary perspective that combines literary criticism with the mediological and performative approaches, this work provides an examination of the distinctive methods, strategies and tools involved in the multimedial texture of The Fifty Year Sword by Mark Z. Danielewski, where a strong relationship between the acoustic-sound medium and the visual-textual one can be observed.
