This study aims to investigate a linguistic code that was used in Romania during the years of Communism Regime and its relationship with historical and political contexts. Therefore, this article will analyse some examples of the “wooden language” used in the literature produced in Romania after the Stalinism. Specifically, this study focuses on the expressions created in this “new language” in a novel by the Romanian writer, Eugen Uricaru, The Submission, and will focuses on how these expressions appear in the Italian translation. Noteworthy is that these “linguistic mechanisms” of the “Sovietized Romanian”, extrapolated from Uricaru’s text, show a language of power, a language that was built parallel to the affirmation of Romanian totalitarian regime.
