In this paper, we first briefly outline the evolution of the chronotope-concept and its application in the humanities and especially in narratological studies; a survey of research on the interrelations between the topological dimension, memory and narrative is then followed by a presentation of the corpora covered in this issue. The article closes with a sketch of the main thematic strands of this special issue and an overview of the contributions.
